5 Signs Your Website Is Costing You Customers
If your website is not generating enquiries, the problem is rarely that people are not visiting. The problem is that they are visiting, looking around, and leaving without taking action. In most cases, the website itself is the reason.
I am Zub, founder of Aventus Digital. The majority of clients who come to us for a website redesign share the same story: “We have a website, but it is not doing anything for us.”
Here are the five most common reasons why, and exactly what you can do to fix each one.

Sign 1: Your Website Takes More Than 3 Seconds to Load
Speed is not a nice to have. It is the first test every visitor runs on your business, whether they realise it or not. Research consistently shows that over half of mobile users will leave a website that takes longer than three seconds to load. They do not wait, they do not scroll, they just go to a competitor.
Slow websites are usually caused by:
- Unoptimised images Large photos that have not been compressed or resized for the web
- Cheap hosting Budget hosting plans that cannot handle traffic properly
- Bloated code Too many plugins, heavy themes, or outdated scripts slowing everything down
- No caching Pages being rebuilt from scratch for every single visitor instead of being served instantly
Every Aventus website design is built with performance baked in from day one. Lightweight code, compressed images, and proper caching are not add-ons. They are standard.
Sign 2: Your Site Is Not Mobile Friendly
Over 60% of all website traffic in the UK now comes from mobile devices. If your website was designed primarily for desktop, the majority of your visitors are getting a poor experience. They are pinching to zoom, struggling with tiny buttons, scrolling sideways, and giving up before they ever reach your contact form.
Google also uses mobile-first indexing, which means it judges your website based on how it performs on a phone, not a desktop. A site that looks great on a laptop but breaks on a mobile will be penalised in search rankings too.
Common mobile problems we see on client sites before a redesign:
- Text too small to read without zooming in
- Buttons too close together making it impossible to tap the right one
- Images overflowing the screen creating horizontal scroll bars
- Menus that do not work properly on touchscreens
All of our websites are built mobile-first. That means we design for the smallest screen first and scale up, not the other way around.
Sign 3: Nobody Can Find You on Google
You could have the best-looking website in your industry, but if it does not appear when your customers search for what you offer, it is not working for your business. A website without SEO is like a shop with no sign on the door.
Warning signs that your website has an SEO problem:
- You do not appear on the first two pages of Google for your main services
- Your pages have no meta titles or descriptions so Google writes its own (usually badly)
- There is no blog or content strategy giving Google a reason to keep indexing your site
- Your site has no internal linking structure so search engines cannot understand what your pages are about
- You are invisible in AI search tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity do not mention your business at all
SEO is included as standard in our Standard and Enterprise website packages. For businesses that want to actively grow their rankings, our monthly SEO plans are launching soon. And because SEO and GEO are built into every site we deliver, you are set up to appear in AI-generated answers too.

Sign 4: Your Website Has No Clear Call to Action
A visitor lands on your site, reads about your services, thinks “this looks good” and then… nothing. There is no obvious next step. No prominent button. No phone number. No form. No reason to act now. So they close the tab and move on with their day.
This is one of the most common and most fixable problems we see. Your website should guide every visitor toward a specific action:
- Every page should have a clear CTA whether that is “Get a Free Quote,” “Book a Call,” or “Request an Audit”
- Contact forms should be short and simple asking only for name, email, and a brief message
- Your phone number should be visible on every page, not buried in the footer
- Trust signals should sit near your CTAs such as reviews, certifications, or client logos
We build conversion-focused websites because a beautiful site that does not convert is just an expensive brochure. Have a look at our portfolio and you will see clear calls to action built into every project.
Sign 5: Your Website Looks Outdated or Untrustworthy
People make snap judgements about businesses based on their website. Research suggests it takes about 50 milliseconds for a visitor to form an opinion about your site. If your website looks like it was built five years ago, visitors will assume your business has not kept up either.
Signs that your website is creating a trust problem:
- The design looks dated with old fonts, stock photos from the early 2010s, or a cluttered layout
- The content is stale with blog posts from 2021 or copyright notices that say 2023
- There is no SSL certificate so browsers show “Not Secure” next to your URL
- There are broken links or missing images scattered across the site
- There are no reviews, testimonials, or social proof anywhere on the site
If any of these sound familiar, a website redesign is probably the most cost-effective investment you can make. Our redesign packages start from just £399. Once the new site is live, a care plan from £79 per month keeps it secure, updated, and performing at its best.

Check your bounce rate in Google Analytics. If more than 60% of visitors leave without clicking anything, your site is likely turning people away. Request a free website audit for a full breakdown.
Under 3 seconds. Ideally under 2. You can test yours for free at Google PageSpeed Insights. If your score is below 70, your site is slow enough to cost you customers.
It depends on how deep the problems go. Minor issues like speed and missing CTAs can be fixed on the existing site. If the design is dated, the code is bloated, or the site was not built for mobile, a redesign from £399 is usually more cost effective than patching problems one by one.
